Too black to be French (2015)
(Documentary first offered for on-line viewing on kanopy.com)
Written and Directed by a Black woman in France named Isabelle Boni-Claverie
whose father was a white Frenchman I believe - this is a look at issues of race
and matters of cultural integration and diversity too perhaps in modern
day France and features interesting comments with people like former
French President Nicolas Sarkozy who she points out appointed a woman
of colour as Secretary of State over a number of years during his tenure.
We see a segment of his speech to African leaders about their "entry
into history as a race striving to better themselves on the earth"
as he sees it.
Isabelle Boni-Claverie discusses issues concerning racial matters with
ordinary French people including racial minorities like herself in order to put
forward her vision of how things could be better for people like her living in
France with the realities that confront them every day it seems.
